All PPA students complete a senior thesis that addresses an
issue of interest in their area of concentration from a
policy perspective. Many seniors discover their topics while
fulfilling their internship requirement. When appropriate,
they explore an issue that furthers the work of their
internship organization as well as meets an academic
requirement. For example, in recent years students have
developed a plan for a wildlife corridor, proposed changes
to state implementation of the Healthy Families program,
analyzed the organizational structure of a charter school
and researched wastewater treatment options for a local
sanitation district. Other students prefer to examine issues from
a theoretical base grounded in their academic concentration.
For example, recent graduates attempted to analyze such
issues as a prescription drug benefit for Medicare
recipients, strengths and weaknesses of high school exit
exams and the efficacy of the Community Prisoner Mother
Program in establishing a mother-child bond between women
who are incarcerated and their children.
Below is a complete list of PPA student theses since the
program’s beginnings in the 1979-80 academic year.
